Caraway creative strategy

A third of the
account
is one promo.

Eight of 28 sampled ads promote one giveaway. I build three replacement tests before that giveaway ends.

28active Meta placements reviewed
Role
Account audit, risk finding, test design
Output
28-ad coding, concentration finding, 3 prioritized tests with owners
Constraint
Public signals only. No internal performance data.
SPEC WORK

This independent exercise was not commissioned by or affiliated with Caraway. Ad examples are credited to Caraway and their named creator partners. Performance conclusions are hypotheses, not claims.

The case in plain English

One finding. One ad idea. One fair test.

What I noticed
Eight of 28 sampled ads push the same giveaway. When it ends, a large part of the ad mix ends with it.
What I would make
Four versions of Caraway’s sharpest non-promo hook: “The pans that started a legal battle.”
What I would test
Does that conflict hook beat a standard non-toxic product message before the giveaway ends?

The assignment

Working brief

How exposed is Caraway's paid social account to its own $100K giveaway ending?

Business job

Keep enough strong ads running when the giveaway ends.

Communication job

Test the best ad idea that does not depend on a prize.

Primary audience

The media buyer and creative strategist who run Caraway’s ad tests each day.

Success signal

Three replacement ideas have owners, dates, and test plans before eight giveaway ads end.

01

Evidence

Current creative audit

Five ways Caraway sells one account, and one way it's exposed.

I pulled 28 placements from Caraway's official US advertiser page, sorted by total impressions. The examples below represent distinct angle and messenger choices inside the active set.

Repeated messageNon-toxic, no PFAS

Made without PTFE, PFOA, or PFAS appears across brand-led, giveaway, and creator executions alike.

Repeated proofSegmented creator voices

Health authority, converted skeptic, new-homeowner, and aesthetic each get their own messenger.

OpportunityScale the one hook with tension

Move past product-benefit statements and give the sharpest angle in the account, legal battle, a real testing budget.

Placement coding

The account has range. The risk is how much of it leans on one mechanic.

I coded the first 28 active placements returned from Caraway's official US Meta advertiser page on August 13, 2026, sorted by total impressions. Each placement received one dominant angle label. Duplicate executions remain in the count because they represent live placement choices, not unique concepts.

8sweepstakes / giveaway

The $100K kitchen makeover promo, run under at least 8 distinct Library IDs.

8non-toxic / PFAS-free

The durability and safety claim, spread across brand and creator voices.

7creator whitelisted

Four segmented messengers, all fully produced, none raw.

5category expansion

Bakeware, mixing bowls, glass storage, and a trash can, not cookware.

2near-duplicate pairs

Two sets of identical copy launched under separate Library IDs.

27 / 28CTA says Shop Now

One ad says Learn More. No consideration-stage path for a $400 set.

Four-dimension gap map

Observed public creative. Not performance data.

Hook typeUnderused: tension

“The pans that started a legal battle” is the only ad that picks a fight. It ran once.

FormatUnderused: raw UGC

All seven creator ads are produced. Nothing tests unpolished customer footage against them.

Calendar hygieneOpen: dedup the twins

Two identical creatives, same copy, same day, different Library IDs, appear twice in the sample. That fragments the read on a winner.

Sunset coverageOpen: nothing waiting

All eight giveaway ads share one end date. No non-promo concept in the sample looks like a tested replacement.

The tell: two identical creatives, same day, different IDs

Library IDs 1295506576126831 and 2885341885153932 carry the same copy and launch date. 1609264657430896 and 1046189377782232 are both “2x entries on Bakeware,” four days apart. That pattern usually means the testing calendar lives in someone's head rather than a shared doc.

Evidence boundary: This coding describes what appeared in one public snapshot. It does not establish spend, delivery weight, hook rate, CTR, CPA, ROAS, or which ads Caraway considers successful. Meta does not publish impression or spend data for commercial advertisers.

02

Strategy

From signal to direction

The risk is not the giveaway. It is having nothing tested behind it.

Evidence-grounded read

The account, not the shopperConcentration risk · single sunset date · untested reserve
What's true today

29% of live creative is one sweepstakes. It teaches shoppers to chase entries, not evaluate cookware.

What happens at sunset

Eight ads end on the same day with no proven non-promo concept ready to take their place.

What's already working, underused

The legal-battle hook is the sharpest thing in the account and has run exactly once.

What the account needs to believe

A tension hook can carry prospecting volume as well as a $100K prize can.

Evidence boundary: This read is built from what is live in market and how long it has run, not from performance data. A media buyer with account access would confirm actual spend concentration before reprioritizing budget.

Observation

Eight of 28 sampled ads are the same $100K giveaway, sunsetting on one date.

Tension

The account's best hook, “legal battle,” has never been scaled or read against a control.

Insight

The account is optimized for one mechanic working, not for what happens when it stops.

Strategic angle

Build the giveaway's replacement before the giveaway ends.

03

Execution

Three tests, with owners

One account. Three named owners. Thirty days.

01 · Lead route

Scale the legal battle angle

Build four variants off the only tension hook in the account and put them against the current non-toxic control.

  • Owner: creative strategist
  • Mechanism: conflict hook vs. benefit statement
  • Read: 3-second hook rate
02 · Insurance route

Build the giveaway's replacement

Get three non-promo concepts to a statistical read before the sweepstakes sunsets, so 29% of spend has somewhere to go.

  • Owner: media buyer + creative, jointly
  • Mechanism: non-promo concept vs. sunset cliff
  • Read: conversion rate pre- vs. post-sunset
03 · Format route

Raw customer video vs. the polished cut

Same script, same four buyer segments the creator casting already validated, shot low-fi by actual customers instead of produced.

  • Owner: creator / UGC lead
  • Mechanism: raw footage vs. produced creator ad
  • Read: does production budget buy performance or polish

Production-ready brief

Scale the Legal Battle Angle

Objective

Prove whether tension outperforms benefit statements as the account's primary hook mechanism.

Audience

Prospecting-stage shoppers who have already seen Caraway's non-toxic claim and are not converting on it alone.

Format

30-second vertical. Cutdowns at 15 and 6 seconds. Captions burned in.

Hook

“The pans that started a legal battle.” Hold the claim before naming the brand.

Body

Name the controversy in one sentence, then resolve it with “No PFAS. Nothing to hide.” End on the product line, not the drama.

CTA

“See what the fight was actually about.” Shop Now.

Guardrails

No specific legal claims beyond what Caraway has already published publicly. Final copy requires legal and brand review.

Hook bank

Ten openings across three mechanisms.

  1. TensionThe pans that started a legal battle. Now on sale.
  2. ContrarianEveryone says non-toxic. We got sued over it.
  3. Direct challengeIf your cookware has never been questioned, it's probably not doing much.
  4. ConfessionI almost didn't buy Caraway because of the headlines. Then I read why.
  5. Nothing to hideNo PFAS. No PFOA. No PTFE. No secrets.
  6. QuestionWhy did a cookware brand end up in court?
  7. RuleStop buying cookware that's never been tested by anyone but the manufacturer.
  8. Specific claimThe chemical they got sued over isn't in a single Caraway pan.
  9. Raw customerMy mom asked if the “lawsuit pan” was safe. Here's what I told her.
  10. Payoff firstCookware that survived a legal battle and came out cleaner.

Testing

Learning plan

Fix the calendar before scaling the tests.

Each round changes one major variable. Results should be compared against Caraway's current non-toxic control under matched audience, placement, spend, and delivery conditions.

RoundQuestionVariantsPrimary readDecision

No invented benchmark:

A numeric kill threshold needs account baselines, minimum sample rules, attribution settings, and margin targets. In a live account, I would define those with the media buyer before launch.

Decision rule: Before any of the above runs, one shared creative testing sheet with hypothesis, variant, control, read date, and owner. Media buyer and creative both write to it. That is what makes the next 30 days legible instead of just busy.

05

Application

How I would use this work

Turn the case into proof, not a link with no context.

Portfolio line

Coded 28 current Caraway Meta placements, surfaced a concentration risk in the account's own giveaway, and built a 30-day test plan with three named owners.

90-second walkthrough

20 seconds on the concentration finding. 20 on the underused tension hook. 30 on the three tests and owners. 20 on the process fix underneath all three.

Target roles

Creative Strategist, Performance Creative Strategist, Paid Social Strategist, Customer Success Manager for creative teams, or agency strategist supporting DTC brands.

Outreach angle

Send the concentration finding, the one scaling recommendation, and the case link. Ask for critique, not a job in the first sentence.
